Their Mission

Pinellas County Hazardous Materials Response Team (PCHMRT) is an all-hazards response unit. This program is designed to address the technological, natural or criminal responses, including chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) threats to their community.

Strategic Coverage

Housed at five strategically placed Fire Departments throughout Pinellas County: Largo, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Seminole, and St. Petersburg, along with members from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department.

The PCHMRT is equipped with specialized protective clothing, state of the art chemical detection equipment, advanced sampling devices, containment tools, computer and chemical based materials identification systems, advanced encrypted communications systems, independent meteorological equipment, and specialized medication & antidotes for use in the event of a large scale domestic TIC-CWA release.

As they are at the forefront of response & mitigation, they routinely train and prepare for any potential chemical release or Weapon of Mass Destruction that may cause harm to the citizens of Pinellas County. It is their duty with this response program to save lives, preserve property, and mitigate all hazards they respond to in Pinellas County and the State of Florida.
